MediView 10g | Dr. Wagner's Story

Video

  • Current protocols for the treatment of cancer patients require the care of specialty physicians in NCI-designated cancer centers for best outcomes. The potential for receiving care at an NCI-designated cancer center decreases by 11% for every 10 miles of travel. Patients required to travel long distances have worse outcomes. This video shares the story of how KU is aiming at the future to find better solutions for breast cancer treatment using augmented reality and 10g technology.

As part of a series, this video won the CableLabs 10G Challenge, earning MediView $100,000+ in funding to innovate medical technology. Learn more below.

The Challenge

Understand

Design Video content that is easy to understand. With complex technologies, the challenge was to develop content that is simple enough to explain in a few minutes, but complex enough to have meaningful concept. From a creative standpoint, it was essential to qualify certain content for general viewers to increase engagement.  As a CableLabs 10G Challenge entry, the content had to meet the requirement of not exceeding 3 minutes.

Tell

Tell a personal story of how MediView technologies can impact medical care across the US, particularly in rural areas. Storytelling a real and current issue was essential in envisioning the future, which often seems so far away. Specific to Western Kansas and its often-rural environment, this technology allows patients in rural communities to remain within their community and have direct face-to-face conversations and physical exams with a specially trained provider at an NCI designated cancer center.

Compete

Compete for real innovation. The 10G Challenge is powered by CableLabs in collaboration with Mayo Clinic to leverage emerging healthcare in the 10G network. The Challenge is designed to support developing technologies, services and applications that rely on the network of the future. As healthcare innovation soars, new technologies will impact access, costs, and health outcomes. The 10G network is bringing higher internet speeds, more security, lower latency and improved reliability.
